BRACKETS — FINAL RESULTS

RULES

In Match Play, the game is played by holes. A hole is won by the player which holes their ball in the fewest amount of strokes. The reckoning of holes is kept by the terms: so many holes up or all square, and so many to play. A player may concede a hole or a match at any time prior to the conclusion of the hole or the match. Concession of a stroke, hole, or match may not be declined or withdrawn. This is a bracket-style, single elimination tournament.

Time frames and match pairings for each round will be posted in the clubhouse and emailed. In each round, you must arrange to play your matches on or before the date stated. Any matches not completed in the time frame posted will result in a double forfeit. First round of matches will begin Friday, June 24th, with the finals on Sunday, August 14 starting at 8:40 AM.

  • The Championship Division will play from the Black Tee Markers with no handicap involved.
  • The Handicap Division will play from the Blue Tee Markers with handicaps playing off the lower of the two handicaps — using 75% of established handicaps.
  • The Senior Division (60-70 years) will play from the White Tee Markers — using 75% of established handicaps.
  • The Super Senior Division (71+ years) will play from the Gold Tee Markers — using 75% of established handicaps.

The Divisions playing with handicaps require an established handicap; IF YOU ARE NOT CURRENTLY ON THE ACTIVE GAM GHIN HANDICAP LIST, ONE WILL BE ESTABLISHED FOR YOU FOR $39 (using your club credit if applicable, or charged to your club account)By signing-up in to play these Divisions, you are accepting these terms. An email will be sent from GHIN letting players know the login info for their account profile; this will allow you to post scores from any course from your phone or computer, and keep up with your handicap all season long!

Ryan & Robert Oosting – 2022 Joe Foster Champions

SUMMARY

Wow! What a weekend of golf at Oceana Golf Club! We hosted the 49th Annual Oceana Best Ball Tournament, better known as the “Joe Foster” Open. The weekend was full of steady 25mph winds out of the southwest, sun, cooler than normal temperatures, and throw in a little rain for good measure on Saturday, and you have some tough conditions here. Don’t take our word for it, check out the scores! Day one there were only 17 out of the 112 teams of two coming in under par; with the low score of 68 (-5) shared by three teams (Joe Balaskovitz / Jeff Hopkins, Grant Norris / Connor McEvoy, Nic Morano / Joe Sherburn) after day one it appeared to be ready for a shootout on Sunday. Day one also yielded 3 skins; only two eagles were made all day on holes #1 and #6 that held out, along with a solo birdie on #11.

Sunday was a much better scoring day. A foggy start gave way to plenty of sunshine, a slight breeze out of the north, and perfect temperatures in the high 60s/low 70s most all the day. With a low of 68, and several teams bunched in closely behind, there were multiple teams that had a legitimate shot at the title if scoring difficulties remained similar. While trailing in the Championship flight after day one three shots back from the lead, the 2022 Champions emerged Sunday with a birdie on the last hole to shoot a 65 (tied for the lowest round from the weekend). Robert and Ryan Oosting were also Champions in 2015 and have closely contended most all of the six years between.
